about

Sun Aggarwal is a Russian-born artist whose work explores concepts of identity, sexuality, relationships, and living life as a trans-person. He graduated from the University of North Florida with a Bachelor in Fine Arts, in Jacksonville, Florida. He explores the way he traverses life with the use of oil paints, presenting snippets of feelings and experiences in a non-linear visual diary. In Aggarwal’s work, the body is an embodiment of discomfort with which his audience must sympathize with. His work creates a connection of visual language between the viewer and the subject of the artwork, which is presented as his own body. Sun’s work has been featured in exhibitions, such as the Thomas G. Carpenter Library, Corner of Roselle and King Art’s Studio, and the Wilson Center for the Arts at the Florida State College of Jacksonville.

statement

My work primarily deals with the exploration of my own identity, sexuality, and my relationship to both myself and others in the world as I navigate it as a trans-man. My focus is in creating an open form of language through the visuals in my artwork, in order to bridge communication between the viewer and myself. I intend to allow the viewer to see what it is like to live as an ‘object’ in current climates, whether it be regarding looking at oneself or how others view them. My work is intimate, large-scale, and contains symbolic motifs that are often hidden inside the poses, composition, or smaller details. I explore and utilize materials as a way of navigating identity, vulnerability in identity and the impermanence of the body.
